



Aramco Upstream Innovation Center: Harnessing 4IR Technology for Advanced Reservoir Management
The Upstream Innovation Center (UIC), located at Aramco’s Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center in Dhahran, is a cutting-edge facility designed to harness the power of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Equipped with advanced technologies, the UIC empowers engineers and geoscientists to optimize oil and gas development plans, devise optimal well trajectories, manage water production, and reduce carbon emissions, ensuring sustainable and efficient reservoir management.
Immersive Experience with Advanced Technology
The Upstream Innovation Center is purposefully designed with distinct functional zones to serve the needs of geoscientists and engineers:
- Technology Zone: Featuring immersive visualization technologies, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and holographic displays. These tools enable professionals to visually assess and analyze geological and reservoir models. Leveraging AI algorithms, these technologies help enhance field development plans and enable more informed decision-making.
- Ideation and Collaboration Zones: Equipped with interactive displays and smartboards, these areas facilitate seamless collaboration and brainstorming among teams, fostering innovation in problem-solving.
- 240-Degree Curved Video Wall: A standout feature is the 240-degree curved video wall with a resolution of 80 million pixels. This visual centerpiece, combined with significant computational power, supports ultra-high-resolution imaging for optimizing field development strategies and critical analysis.
Our Role in the Upstream Innovation Center
Our team played an integral role in the successful execution of the Upstream Innovation Center, focusing on commissioning cutting-edge immersive technologies and ensuring their optimal functionality:
- Large Immersive Screens Commissioning: We commissioned the 240-degree curved video wall and other immersive displays, delivering exceptional visual quality required for high-resolution geological analysis and ensuring they operated seamlessly.
- Media Server Integration: Our team integrated and commissioned the media servers powering the visualization technologies, enabling real-time content delivery and smooth operation across all immersive screens.
- Pixel Processing Units: We commissioned pixel processing units for each display, providing flexible control over the visual canvas. This setup allowed various devices and content sources to be dynamically positioned on the displays, enhancing the center’s ability to present data, visualizations, and interactive content efficiently.
